Terms & Conditions

By using this site you agree to these terms. They're short, written in plain English, and designed to be fair to both of us.

Last updated May 2026

1. About these terms

These terms govern your use of TheBenefitsCalculator.co.uk (the "Site") operated by TheBenefitsCalculator.co.uk ("we", "us", "our"). By using the Site you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site.

2. The Site is free, but not unconditional

The Site, including the benefits calculator and all guides, is provided free of charge. In exchange, we ask that you use it for personal, non-commercial purposes only, and that you don't:

  • Attempt to break, disrupt, overload or interfere with the Site or its underlying systems.
  • Use automated tools (scrapers, bots) to harvest content beyond what a normal user would view.
  • Republish substantial portions of our content elsewhere without permission. Quoting a sentence or two with a link to us is fine and welcome.
  • Misrepresent the source of our calculations (e.g. by presenting them as official government figures).

3. The Site is not advice

Nothing on this Site constitutes legal, financial, tax or welfare advice. Our calculator gives an indicative estimate based on the rates published for the 2025/26 tax year and the information you enter. It cannot replace a full assessment by the relevant government department or qualified adviser.

Always verify our output with at least one of the following before acting on it:

  • The official application process on GOV.UK.
  • A free advice session with Citizens Advice.
  • Your local council's welfare rights team.

4. Accuracy

We make reasonable efforts to keep the Site accurate and up to date, but we don't guarantee accuracy. UK benefit rates change annually; our rates may be out of date during a brief window each April between the new rates being published and our build being updated. Local Authority Council Tax Reduction schemes, exemptions to the two-child limit, Housing Benefit transitional protection, and other edge cases are not always reflected in our calculator. See our methodology page for known limitations.

5. Intellectual property

All content on the Site (text, code, design, illustrations) is ยฉ TheBenefitsCalculator.co.uk unless otherwise credited. You may:

  • View, print and save pages for personal reference.
  • Quote short extracts with a clear link back to the source page.
  • Link to any of our pages.

You may not republish, mirror, frame or commercially distribute our content without prior written permission. For citation in academic work, journalism or partner content, please get in touch โ€” we routinely grant permission for legitimate use.

6. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from:

  • Reliance on figures produced by our calculator.
  • Errors, omissions or out-of-date information on the Site.
  • Interruption or unavailability of the Site.
  • Actions taken (or not taken) by you, DWP, HMRC, a local authority or a third party as a consequence of using our content.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence โ€” neither of which is realistic given the nature of the Site, but the clause is required for completeness.

7. Third-party links

The Site links to external resources (gov.uk, Citizens Advice, council websites, etc.) for your convenience. We are not responsible for the content, availability or privacy practices of any third-party site.

8. Changes to the Site and these terms

We may add, modify or remove features and content at any time without notice. We may update these terms periodically โ€” the "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest change. Material changes will be flagged at the top of the page for at least 30 days. Continued use of the Site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising out of your use of the Site is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

10. Contact
